Accountability Plan Guidelines
Facts
- The Accountability Plan articulates the goals the school will use to measure its success.
- The Accountability Plan is submitted by August 1 after a school’s first year in operation OR at the time of renewal application (for schools entering the second term of their charter).
- The Accountability Plan becomes part of the schools “charter.”
- Progress toward Accountability Plan goals is assessed:
- in the schools Annual Report.
- in one-day site visits conducted by the Charter School Office (years 2 and 3).
- at renewal inspection following submission of application for renewal.
Guidelines
- Be realistic yet rigorous.
- Make the goals measurable.
- Focus on outcomes, or results, not inputs.
- Create a focused and manageable plan.

- Three areas of inquiry:
- the success of the academic program
- the viability of the organization
- the faithfulness to the terms of the charter
Tips
- Academic Program:
- Use multiple measures to show depth of success.
- Plan to make AYP (at least).
- Organizational Viability:
- Demonstrate that parents seek out school.
- Demonstrate financial control and sound financial decision making.
- Demonstrate Sound governance and management.
- Faithfulness to Charter:
- Articulate outcomes expected of school based on charter.
Reporting
- Annual reports should include data AND analysis/interpretation of that data.
